Architecture of an Outfit: Androgeny – Disco Style!

by maeko on March 25th, 2010

Hello. [Mostly] Wordless Wednesday…

Something ever so slightly androgynous about a plain black trouser and white button-down combination. It could’ve all gone over so plainly, so I threw on a few gold accessories, like the gold coin earrings and the disco chain belt to liven up the entire ensemble.

As plain as black and white outfits like this, simple and uniform-y, a bit restaurant server-ish, if you will, I still find a type of uniform with a small mod like crazy 5 inch YSL wanna be platforms and disco accessories… well… I find it refreshing! It wasn’t hard at all to style or dress myself the next day, because the only pieces of clothing I had to choose were a white shirt with a popped collar and a simple pair of skinny black ankle trousers.

I can see myself wearing this pretty often, but with a few deets changed here and there.

What sort of simple “Uniforms” are you finding yourself in? They don’t have to be physical.

Outfit architecture: Club Monaco button down; Forever 21 coin earrings; Moda International via Victoria’s Secret skinny ankle trousers; Dolce Vita platform heels; ShopRuche disco belt.

Hey Mae! That first photo is perfect!!!
      And love those shoes!

I’m so lazy these days, my uniform is jeans and a top. Which is actually the last thing I want to wear these days .

p.s. Thank you so much for saying a prayer for me last week. That was very sweet. And needed :)

        BUTT SHOT, first photo. :)

I’m loving my window ledge for photos now. Especially since I have no tripod, and my dresser works perfectly.

I’m not big on jeans either. How do you style jeans? I have no clue anymore!

I hope things are getting better these days. I really do.

Nice to see you rocking the pumps. They’re still killing my feet but I love ‘em regardless :) i also love the gold belt in this look. I would wear this to an after-work-happy-hour-drinks-on-me kinda thing, hahaha…

Thanks for the “Sun Kim for Lost” comment. I personally never watch the show (I know about it) but I had 3 strangers asked me if I was her, no kidding!:p Thanks again, that was very sweet of you.

And sure, lets exchange link! ;)

They generally kill my feet, but I notice that they hurt less without socks. I bought gel arch inserts that adhere to the archy area. I’m sure you could buy some, and it’ll help.

I do still wish I bought them a half size bigger. Which is weird, because I already bought them a 1/2 size bigger than normal. I wear a 6 regularly. So 6.5 should’ve been bigger, but they killlllled me.

          Thanks on the belt!

I put your link up today!!

            Hmm, I swore I sent a response earlier…

The pumps hurt. But not as badly before. I bought them half a size big, but I’m beginning to wish I had bought them a full size larger.

I put in gel arch inserts and it has alleviated the initial murderous pain I experienced when I got them. Wearing them with tights and thin socks is impossible for some reason, and the pain is almost constant when I do, so now that the weather is warm enough to wear them without socks, they’re starting to feel way more comfy than before.

They are definitely my most “versatile” shoe in my wardrobe. I think once I break them in more, I can use them more often. The heft, weight and 5.5 platform heel were definitely a huge adjustment, and I’m still trying to get accustomed to it. It’s a wonder that a mere .5 change in height can make such a difference in my coordination!

            I added your link today!

black and white. My favorite combo ever. I wear it way too much. Though sometimes I like to add a red belt for some pop. Or I like to do all black with the red belt, only if the blacks match though!!

I love that first photo. BUTT SHOT.

lol I agree that I feel a bit restaurant server-ish too when I wear black-trousers white-buttondown-top, but I love it. It’s chic, it’s classic, and it’s understated. The gold jewelry and accessories definitely gave this outfit more flair and class. I’ll keep that tip in mind the next time I want to go black and white. Put on a gold belt like Maeko! Also, those shoes are NOT restaurant server shoes! =P Anyone who has ever been in the service industry would recognize that! This outfit is another hit. I’d totally copy and wear it for the next power lunch meeting! (Oh but minus the heels, only because I’m a moron and don’t know how to walk in heels…)

If you start out with a wedge heel with a small platform, it’ll be easy to get accustomed to walking in heels!

Someone as chic as you, doesn’t wear heels? WOW! I am so surprised!

If I had a red belt, I’d wear a red one, too!

Oh, I definitely wear heels, but if there’s any even negligible amount of walking or standing involved, I’ll make sure the heels are under 1.5 inches. Stilettos are SO hot, but I’m not yet able to look graceful in stilettos. =( Fail.

They are very YSL-esque, aren’t they? Dolce Vita has been doing a lot of YSL rip offs lately!

                              Hey – love the outfit!

For work at Express the only thing they require of us is that we wear three pieces and Express Jeans. I tend to fall into jeans, v-neck t-shirt and necklace. I have the same t-shirt in 5 colors and two pairs of the same jeans and I wear them over and over. Everything I wear gets so tore up running around that damn store it’s really not worth wearing nice shoes or nice clothes. I only switch it up with a belt, some drop earrings or with different kinds of cardigans/ jackets.

                              So there’s that.
