Tea for Two #2: Coffee-Tea Time Chats with Maeko

by maeko on February 10th, 2010

Media technology brings people from all over the globe together in a close-knit kinship, a digital community. Bloggers, in particular, find themselves interconnected, kindred spirits. We are tied together by this hobby/habit/addiction we all share.

So, in the spirit of camaraderie, I have instituted a blog theme stolen from my girl SleepyJane called Tea for Two, she calls them Coffee Chats. These Tea Times/Coffee Chats help bring me closer to my readers and my blog friends. Every few weeks, I respond to SleepyJane’s coffee chat with a post of my own, and then I invite my readers to answer the same questions.

Also… I’m home sick with a back spasm that’s been killing me for the better part of three days, so I have nothing but time.

This week’s Tea for Two (or three or a baker’s dozen) is a two-fer: response to SJ, and I pose some new questions. Feel free to answer both sets in the comments below. Or even write a response article, but make sure to link me back to it!

Grab a Tea or Coffee, sit down, and let’s talk!

{ SJ’s 3 Questions }

1. Tell me one thing that makes you happy?

2. Your favourite things to do on a rainy day/night? (I need ideas on account of all the fabulous rain here. I love love love rain.)

3. Phrases or words you overuse?

{ ME }

1. One thing that makes me happy? I can’t just pin it down to just ONE. Husband. Staying in Date Nights at home. Nights on the couch, watching weeds. My cooking. My dog. Reading my new friends’ blogs. Newly? Eye lash treatments and mascaras… From Japan. It’s superficial, but I love it.

2.Until my late twenties, I used to LOVE rain showers. Growing up in Southern California, there was hardly ANY rain, so whenever there was a rain shower, I would always PUDDLE JUMP! I’d get really cold after the hours of finding the deepest puddles in which to jump, but the squeals of laughter, and delight jumping gave me were worth the chills. Now, I play videogames if it rains or snows. Sometimes I go for a wet run in the woods. The woods here are beautiful when wet.

3. I say, “Like”, Valley-Girl style WAY too much. Blame my 20 years in San Diego. I also say “for sure”, “dude”, “hullabaloo”, “that’s weak-sauce”, and “fantastic” too much. I’m sick of people using the word “chic”, and the word “bling” makes me want to hurl. I also use “indeed” with a smug-fuck-know-it-all tone too much. I blame my brother.

{ Maeko’s Questions }

1. What do you wish someone would invent?

2. Do you ever miss something from your younger years?

3. If there was one song that, if stranded on a desert island with no hope of ever leaving (a la LOST), you would NEVER want to hear ever again?

And I leave you with:

Today’s Quote

I use “like” an awful lot as well.
And sleeping in the rain is the absolute best :)

    1. Hmmm…if I knew I’d invent it myself!
    2. I miss not worrying so much. But then again, I always worried. Just about less adult things.
    3. I hate songs with foul language or vulgarity. Makes me cringe. Other than than I can stand pretty much anything.

Sleeping IN the rain, or during the rain? J/K. I know what you mean. Rain is so soothing.

I’m a worrier, too! I freak about small things or big things… it doesn’t matter!

Oops. Remind me not to swear in front of you when we do meet! I talk like a sailor.

I still love rainy days! Such a great excuse to stay home and cozy up with some good TV or a book. (Obviously, I’m a huge home body!)

As for my younger years…I miss the lack of responsibility and the innocence. I think kids today (God, I’m my mother) and probably kids back then are all anxious to grow up and lose their innocence. Sure, being an adult rocks, but I’m thankful I had my carefree childhood!

Kids today, more than ever, grow up WAY too quickly.

I think it borders on almost vulgar on how quickly these kids want to lose their childhood and youthful innocence. I see 12 year olds now a days (gosh, we do sound old), and they dress like sluts in clothes that are marketed toward their age group. Compared to them I was frakking wholesome! I could only think about playing with toys and videogames and seeing what new discoveries we could find while scouting the neighbourhood on our bikes. Gosh.

I love this idea, but I’m sorry to hear about your back spasms! I hope they clear up soon!

1.) I wish someone would invent/design a car that had an area to put your purse. I hate having to move my purse to the back seat whenever I have someone in the passenger seat. Does that make me selfish and lazy?

2.) I miss how much my sister and I use to love playing with dolls. It was so fun to wake up on the weekend and play with our American Girl dolls, Barbies. The thought playing with dolls sounds so boring to me now, but I miss how fun, engaging and relaxing it felt to play around.

        3.) Margaritaville.

Ahhh, the American Girl dolls. I wanted one, but my parents couldn’t find the space in their budget to get me one. So I just imagined what I’d do with them whenever a new catalogue would arrive.

I played dolls and I also played videogames endlessly. And read Terry Brooks’ fantasy novels. And rode my bike around the neighbourhood with my brother and foster brother.

Those times were so much more simple. And that age is one that doesn’t really ever arrive for kids now. They’re all in a rush to be more than teenagers. It makes me sad.

          YAY I love this! :)

          1. What do you wish someone would invent? Mmmm…some kind of tablet (that’s healthy) that you drink and then you can eat whatever you want and not pick up weight!

          2. Do you ever miss something from your younger years? On Sundays my parents would rent videos, we’d make a huge bed in the living room, close all the doors and drapes and just chill all day. It was a lot of fun.

          3. If there was one song that, if stranded on a desert island with no hope of ever leaving (a la LOST), you would NEVER want to hear ever again?
I can’t pick just one but anything by Beyonce and Mariah Carey. I despise both their music…all of it. Ew ew ew ew.

:) I’m going to make it a habit. Maybe not always responding to yours as a post, but definitely posing questions whenever my little heart desires.

            You’re genius, ma’am.

I LOVE THE FAMILY nest day! My husband and our dog used to do that. Sundays, inflatable mattress and movies and favourite tv shows.

Then my dog Max ate the plug off our mattress and it won’t inflate anymore. So we can’t do that anymore. Sad.

I say “like” too much, too. I’ve been keeping tabs on myself for the past couple months…and am getting better.

              1. Something to get me ready in the morning while I can still sleep.

              2. The complete freedom (just about) from all responsibilities. And the time to play video games.

              3. Anything by the Spice Girls. Pretty sure about that one.

I used to say “soooo” way too much. UGH. I say “major” and “majorly” pretty often now, too.

GOD, won’t it be awesome if there was a type of hallway we could walk through and be ready at the end of it? Like in a science fiction movie. WOW. Incredible!

I almost wish I hadn’t read all those words you find yourself using often…because now I may find myself using them, too! Just this evening, I’ve said “weak sauce” TWICE!

Now, that hallway idea is a fabulous idea. I can just imagine it…sweeeet. :) Maybe I’ll dream about it.

I know I over-use certain phrases all the time, but I can’t think of any at the moment. (Let’s talk about my horrible memory instead!). However, my boss says “etcetera, etcetera” like it’s going out of style… Except he mispronounces it and says “eccetera, eccetera.” Oh how I wish I could correct him :)

                    1. Someone should invent a waterproof shield for laptops or a dock for laptops that you can place in a bathtub. I love my bubble baths and I also love my laptop… and there should be a way that I can have both at the same time.

                    2. I miss coming home to white rice and chinese sausages with the siblings while watching Reading Rainbow. No matter how good the other food my Mom makes (she’s a great cook, BTW), my siblings and I are always happiest and most satisfied with our rice and sausage.

                    3. At the moment, that “shawty’s like a melody in my head…” blah blah blah… I hate that song right now and that’s got to say a lot because almost every song known to mankind is my “favorite song”.

I just put my laptop on a stool and put on movies when I’m in a bath. I’m too chicken to type or browse.

But you’re right; a bath with no laptop is not a proper one.

Lol. “weak sauce” or anything-sauce is so awesome. Nate and I also say f-bomb for the f word. It’s funny and it works! Or we say “frak” because that’s a throw back to Battlestar Galactica. Nerds!
